“We rise by lifting others.”
This is our favorite quote by Robert Ingersoll and we use it as guide for our vision and activities in CEO Moms. Our aim for our meetups is to help each other in running our startup business, family and even our own lives. And wouldn’t it be nice to get valuable and honest advice from women who are in the same place? That’s why in our recent women’s network event, we are grateful to introduce aspiring lady entrepreneurs to the different aspects of the Startup life, to discuss building a startup fast, finding co-founders, and other things in between. With Launchgarage, as the perfect venue and discussions over food, wine and cheese, the ladies experienced a laid back, casual night of fun learning, as they were given a glimpse of what to expect should they pursue a startup. Two successful women founders were the speakers for the evening. Gear Fajardo, mom to a teenage girl, is the CEO and Founder of Good Meal Hunting, an online marketplace for home-based cooks and Ann Cuisia-Lindayag, mom of 4, is the CEO and Founder of Giftit, a “crowdgifting” app that takes advantage of technology to make gifting more convenient and friendly. The two ladies shared their experiences on dealing with family life, steps they had to take in launching their respective startups and the hard work they had to endure, to make it what it is today.
The aspiring women entrepreneurs were able to take with them certain insights on how they can harness their strengths and handle their weaknesses which would help them in leading their own startups. Gear and Ann shared the importance of the following characteristics when building a business:
- Be resourceful when starting a business.
- Lead by nurturing your team.
- Be ready for rejections, everyday.
- Accomplish things at a fast pace.
- Commit to the mission.
The ladies were then given the chance to ask other questions and concerns they had on starting their own business. A happy and relaxing fellowship and networking among the participants ended the evening on a perfect note. It was indeed a great night to gather with like-minded women and learn first-hand from two successful women founders.
